Match Review: Rangers 2-0 Panathinaikos

The Russell Martin era got off to a winning start as Rangers defeated Greek side Panathinaikos 2-0 at Ibrox.

The home side had Jack Butland to thank for keeping the scores level at the interval, with the Rangers stopper making several impressive first half saves.

18-year-old Findlay Curtis' brilliant strike, albeit with a deflection, from outside the box put the Light Blues ahead in the 52nd minute.

Six minutes later and the visitors would find themselves down to ten men after Giorgos Vagiannidis saw red after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Curtis.

The Gers doubled their advantage in the 78th minute through another excellent strike, this time from new signing Djeidi Gassama after an impressive run.

Russell Martin: "It (the atmosphere) was brilliant, it was intense. The crowd were incredible tonight - I'm really grateful for that".

The Light Blues will now travel to Athens on Wednesday, July 30 for the second leg at the Olympic Stadium.
