Rangers finally got their first competitive win under Derek McInnes with an emphatic victory over St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup round of 16 - to set up a quarter final match against Celtic at Ibrox in September.
Ryan Naderi gave the 'Gers the lead in the ninth minute of the game, before Vanja Dragojevic scored a sensational volley - his first goal for the club - from the outside the penalty area to make it 2-0 to the home side.
The visitors pulled a goal back through Chris Mochrie's well taken finish before the interval, following some sloppy Rangers defending - 2-1 Rangers at half time.
The hosts made it 3-1 shortly after the break, with Djeidi Gassama slotting the ball home, assisted by James Penrice, following a blistering Rangers counter-attack.
Just a couple of minutes later and it was 4-1 after impressive debutant Penrice finished from close range, following some impressive attacking play from the Light Blues.
A foul from Fernandez on Eseosa Sule lead to the visitors being awarded a penalty, with Killian Phillips initially putting the ball in the net which would have made it 4-2. However, he was made to retake the kick by referee John Beaton and Ivor Pandur made the save to keep the score at 4-1.
Substitute Ross McCausland made it 5-1 in the 74th minute, with Lawrence Shankland's effort rebounding off the post - much to the Rangers captain's frustration as he is yet to score a competitive goal in open play since his switch to Ibrox in the summer.
This was the Northern Irishman's first goal for Rangers since January 2025, having spent last season out on loan at Cypriot side Aris Limassol.
McInnes: "We got off to a flyer at the start of the second half, get the third goal, score a couple more.. the players deserved that moment today against a St Mirren team who have been doing well."
Next up for the 'Gers is Czech outfit Jablonec at Ibrox, in the Europa Conference League qualifying play-off round first leg on Thursday night..
